    Samuel Coleridge's Childhood
    Samuel Coleridge was born on October 21, 1772, in Devonshire, England. He was the youngest of ten children and his father died when he was only eight. After that, he was sent to Christ's Hospital School and spent his childhood their writing poetry and studying. When his education was finished there, he went to Jesus University of Cambridge and studied in law.

    At Camberige, he was introduced to political and theological idead then considered radical, including those of Poet Robert Southey. Samuel joined Southey to find a utopian commune-like society called Pantisocracy in Pennsylvania. The plan was soon abandoned though.
  • Married the Fricker sisters

    Married the Fricker sisters
    Samuel Coleridge married Sarah Fricker. He began to detest his wife and spent much time away from her. After all, he only married her because of social constraints. They eventually split-up.
  • Wordsworth

    He met William Wordsworth, a poet and his sister Dorothy. Wordsworth liked the area and rented Alfoxton park not to far away from Coleridges house. (about 3 miles)

    Coleridge Made a Newspaper every 8 days called the Watchman. It was published every 8 days to avoid weekly tax. The Watchman stopped publishing by May that year.
  • Cottage

    Coleridge lived in a cottage wich is now known as Coleridge Cottage in Nether Stowey, Southerset. It was the most fruitful (productive) house that he lived in.

    In fall 1798, Coleridge and Wordsworth set off for Germany. Coleridge eventually seperated from him and visited university towns.

    He seperated with his wife in 1808. This was probably due to his opium addiction.

    Coleridge spent many years in the company of the Gillman House. 18 to be exact. He even died while living there.

    Coleridge finished this book in 1797 but published it in 1816. He started writing this after he had an opium dream one night.

    Coleridge had published this in 1798, but he later revised it and republished it in 1817.
  • The End of Coleridge

    On July 25, 1834, Samuel Taylor Coleridge died. He will almost always be know as an amazing poet for his inspiring and great work. His poems are still read today by thousands of people. He died of a heart failure.
