Mucius Scaevola, a roman soldier who volunteered to assassinate King Lars Porsena of the Etruscans, ends up captured by The Etruscans. At which point he states that there are other soldiers who will arrive to kill Lars Porsena. He then puts his hand into a fire to demonstrate the will of Rome, which scares Lars Porsena who then agreed to a peace treaty with Rome. During a grain shortage, a patrician named Coriolanus suggests that the only citizens who should get grain are citizens who oppose the tribune of the plebs. The tribune exiles Coriolanus, who then leads the Volscans to invade Rome, but later defects back to Rome and is killed by the Volscans. As a result of the plebeians protesting that current system of laws being exclusively remembered by certain patricians rather than written down was unfair, 10 men were assigned to write down 12 laws. The new written laws allowed the plebeians to know what laws they had to prevent patricians from abusing their power.

He was accused by the patricians of attempting to be a king, and was killed by a group of patricians led by Gaius Servillius Ahala. Afterwards, the plebeians viewed Spurius Maelius as a hero.
