    William Lyon Mackenzie King, made a speech called the “Five- Cent Speech” during the beginning of the Great Depression.It means that W.L.M King wouldn’t give even a nickel to someone that lost their job and people who are asking for relief payments.The speech was about the social welfare was the responsibility of the provinces.This was important because its one the main reasons why Liberals lost the elections and the Conservatives;Richard Bedford Bennett became the next Prime Minister of Canada.

    Scotch tape was invented by Richard Drew who worked for a major tape company, 3M. Drew's first tape was water-proof and see-through. In 1932 the first tape dispenser with a built in blade was made to help easily rip scotch tape.

But in the 1930's radios became mass marketed and became accessible to everyone. Radios were important because it allowed people to feel a sense of connection to eachother and their Prime Minister at the time. Almost all radios became more advaced and when used in the war, were more reliable, long ranged and clear.

    The Reconstruction Finance Corporation was a government ran corporation. The corporation was started to give 2 billion dollars to aid states, local governments, banks and other businesses through the hard times of the depression. This played a big part in helping set up relief programs for the United States.

    Many World War I Veterans took the long journey to Washington D.C to rally. They did this so in the hard times of the depression they could get their money from being in the war at the time instead of in 1945. The bill was vetoed and then the riot was broken up by the army called on by the president. Many people were injured and 4 men were killed.

    Many people voted for Roosevelt because he was a change of Hoover’s shaky choices, and because many people thought that is was Hoover's fault that the Great Depression happened. Roosevelt stayed in office until April 2, 1945.

    Bennett's "New Deal"
    New Deal was the radical reforms Bennett introduced in 1935 to pacify the angry Canadians. He wanted to establish unemployment and social insurance, set minimum wages, limit the hours of work, guarantee the fair treatment of employees, and control prices so that businesses could not make unfair profits. But most people felt that Bennett had left his reforms too late to do any good. So, in the election of 1935, King and the Liberals swept back to power in a landslide victory.

    SS St. Louis was a ship that set sail from Hamburg to Havana.On board were 937 Jewish refugees escape persecution from Nazi Germany.Each passenger carried a valid visa for temporary entry into Cuba.As the boat approached Havana,the Cuban government declared the visas invalid and refused entry of passengers causing them to go back to Europe.They were also at the coast of U.S/Canada and they didn’t let them in either,so countries like Belgium,Netherlands,Great Britain and France took some refuges.
