Programming Languages

  • Plankalkul

    Chief Developer is Konrad Zuse, this programming translates from german meaning “Plan Calculus.” Used for engineering purposes it was the first high level programing language to be designed for a computer.
  • Fortran

    Originally developed by IBM this program was suited for numeric computing and scientific computation.
  • MATH-MATIC

    Team led by Charles Katz, and Grace Hopper. The program was supposed to be a step up from the Fortran and then a new version named FLOW MATIC was developed and served as a model to build input from other gathered sources.
  • COBOL (Common Business Oriented Language)

    The CODASYL committee, the main reason this was developed was for use in the business field.
  • RPG (Report Program Generator)

    Developed by IBM, a high level language for business applications.
  • BASIC

    (Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code) led by John George Kemeny and Thomas Eugene Kurtz at Dartmouth College, they wanted to give the opportunity for all students to be able to use a computer without having to have the knowledge of coding their own software which only scientists and mathematicians could do.
  • LOGO

    Developed by Seymour Papert, and Wally Feurzeig, this is an educational language, today the language is remembered mainly for the use of “Turtle Graphics.”
  • B

    Developed by Ken Thompson with contributions from Dennis Ritchie, this program was designed for the use
  • PASCAL

    developed by Niklaus Wirth and Kathleen Jensen. This was a program that was small and efficient language intended to encourage good programing practices using structured programing.
  • SQL

    the Structured Query Language developed by IBM
  • C

    Developed by Dennis Ritchie, this language was used to re implement the Unix operating system.
  • ML

    General purpose functional programing language developed by Robin Milner
  • C++

    It was designed wiht a bias toward system programing. This program was designed by Bjarne Strousrtrup.
  • ADA

    A structured and wide spectrum language extended from pascal. Origionally designed by a team led by Jean Ichbiah under the contract of the US Department of Defense.
  • Viaual Basic

    designed by Alan Cooper and was sold and developed by microsoft, this program was intended to be easy to learn and use.
  • Python

    Designed by Guido van Rossum and developed by Python Software Foundation this is widely used high level programing language for general use. It emphasizes code readability and allowing users to express concepts in fewer lines of code.
  • Java

    Developed by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems. This is a general purpose computer programing language that is concurrent, and class based.
  • PHP

    Designed by Rasmus Lerdorf and developed by Zend Technologies this is a server side scripting language designed for web development but also used as a programing software for general use.
  • Javascript

    developed by Brendan Eich at Netscape, Javascript is a high level dynamic programing language. Being used on the world wide web is one of the things this language is used for as well as being used in PDF documents and desktop widgets.
  • Delphi

    An intergrated development environment for console, desktop graphic, web, and mobile applications. Developed by Borland.
