Diana works with children who are sick with AIDS and Leprosy. A photo was taken of her touching a child with AIDS, a deadly disease that people ONCE thought you could catch by touching an infected person. Diana SHOWED the world that you CAN TOUCH people with AIDS and how much they need this love.

Diana served as an International Red Cross Volunteer. She visited landmine survivors in hospitals, toured de-mining projects run by the HALO Trust, and attended mine awareness classes about the dangers of mines. She worked very hard to get the UK government and other nations to create the Ottawa Treaty which banned the use of anti-personnel landmines.

A couple of days before her death, Princess Diana visited Bosnia to work tith the Landmine Survivors Network.

On August 31st, 1997 Diana died in a horrible car crash in Paris. She and her boyfriend, Dodi Al-Fayed, and their driver Henri Paul were killed. The only survivor was Al-Fayed's body guard. The crash occured just after midnight. At first, people blamed the paparazzi (reporters). However, after a long investigation, they found that the driver was driving recklessly and had been drinking.

Many people loved Lady Diana. Her public funeral was held at Westminster Abbey. Over 3 million attended/watched. More than 1 million bouquets were left at her London home, Kensigton Palace. Famous singer, Elton John adapted a song he originally wrote about Marilyn Monroe, "Candle in the Wind" retitiling it "Goodbye, Englands Rose". Diana, Pricess of Wales, was laid to rest at Althorp, the Spencer estate, on an island in a lake. The burial ceremony was private.

Unfortunatly, as of January 2005, Diana's legacy on landmines remained unfulfilled, The United Nations appealed to the nations which produced and stockpiled the largest numbers of landmines to sign the Ottawa Treaty forbidding their production and use.

Diana will always be remembered as the "Peoples Princess". A true fairy tale of a young farmgirl marrying a wealthy prince. Although she had many hardships, she was able to live in a beautiful castle, become an amazing mother, and serve through her charity to help women, children, the elderly and the ill.
There are many memorials still active today that remind us of the great work Diana accomplished. -
A playground in London called, "Peter Pan's Playground" (created by the author of Peter Pan), displays a plaque of dedication to remember the charitable work Diana accomplished and her love for children.
A Memorial Fund still exists today that provides grants to numerous organizations and supports work that provides care to people with AIDS.
Those who believed in her and her causes, continue to fight againt landmines that endanger children. -
Diana became a princess but many believed she was destined to be a queen. She will live in our hearts forever.
