    Missouri Compromise-1820
    To keep the Senate equal, Missouri became a slave state and Maine became a free state. Then it was decided that the line 36-30 was going to determine future states.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    Fugitive Slave Act
    A bill passed that required all citizens to help capture African Americans trying to escape slavery. And judges were given rewards for trailing these people but received more money sending people back so it's believed there was a bias for money.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    The compromise dealt with the lands part of the Mexican cession, but the compromise didn't affect the slavery of Missouri lands from the Louisiana purchase but this caused debate on whether the Missouri compromise needed change.

    A novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe in order to tell the story of what the slaves were experiencing and of Uncle Tom a slaves story who was kind and then was sold to another but then was whipped to death when refusing to tell the whereabouts of runaway slaves.

    Kanas-Nebraska Act
    These two territories were decided to be voted as for popularity severity on their slavery laws. The Bill was the created by Stephen Douglas in order to set up a government for the lands covering the north western part.

    Dred Scott, after being brought into the North from the south sued as he believed he had gained citizenship and by the supreme court it was deemed against him and he was not a citizen, so therefore he couldn't sue.
  • John Brown's Raid on Harpers Ferry

    John Brown's Raid on Harpers Ferry
    Brown gained control of an arsenal but Robert E.Lees troops came and killed ten raiders and captured Brown in order to put him on trial. After being put on trial he didn't try and create and more revolts and was sentenced to death under guilty of murder and treason.

    After Abraham Lincoln won the election many beloved now they had no voice in the government so south Carolina became the first state to secede.

    The Lack of unity in the states was costly for Democracy as many citizens were worried that Lincoln would make slavery illegal. And in the popularity pre-vote he had a 40% popularity vote so when he won things went south.
