Cold War
The Cold War was a conflict between the Communist nations led by the Soviet Union and the democratic nations led by the United States. There were economic and political differences between the Soviet Union and the United States before WWII. -
Nuclear Arms Race
The Nuclear Arms race was between the US, Soviet Union, and the allies during the Cold War. There were other countries that developed nuclear weapons, however no country developed on the scale of the superpowers. The first nuclear crisis is when the US bombed Hiroshima in 1945. -
The Truman Doctrine
The Truman Doctrine was about Truman declared a foreign policy to to assist any country whose stability was threatened by communism. Prior to WW1 Great Britain ruled trhe greatest empire. After the two World War's Great Britain was too devastated to be strong. -
Marshall Plan
Europe suffered from the effects of WWII. Their industrial and residential areas had suffered great damage. They were on the brink of famine. From 1945 to 1947 the US had helped financially with the damages. -
Creation of NATO
NATO is the protection of the North Atlantic region via a Treaty Organization (NATO). The Europeans were looking for military protection and economic and military aid to ensure their survival as a democratic states. -
Korean War
First battle between the US Army and NKPA. THe Korean's were outnumbered and suffered heavy casulties -
Vietnam War
The War was in Vietnam, Taos and Cambodia was started because the US did not want to be a communist country. The US got involved when the French did not want their territories to be controlled. -
Space Race
The Soviets launched Sputnik 1, the first orbit sattelite. The US feared that the Soviets would put the first man on the moon. As the Soviets won the Space Race, the hero was commended with this speech "The flight made by you opens up a new page in the history of mankind in its conquest of space," Mr Khrushchev said. -
Launching Sputnik
The Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik 1 in the Space Race against the US. This was a milestone of the USSR. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile was the closest the world ever came to a nuclear war. The Cubans were ready to use nuclear weapons to protect their island. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
Bay of Pigs called for 2 air strikes against Cuba. 1400 men were to strike and surprise attack. -
Vietnam War Ends
The Vietnam War ended when South Vietnam surrendered and Vietnam became a communist country. -
Cold War Ends
The USSR made some reforms, both signed treaties to disarm the superpowers. Since then the US and Russia have had a better relationship and it is safer for all of us now.
