    Ten-Percent Plan
    President Lincoln announced his Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction. He did this so there could be a new state of government made.
  • Wade-Davis Bill

    Wade-Davis Bill
    Proposed that Congress would be responsible for reconstruction, and not the president. It also declared for a state of government to be formed as a majority, and not just ten-percent.
  • Freedman's Bureau

    Freedman's Bureau
    Freedman's Bureau was made to aid freed slaves during the reconstruction era. It was made by Abraham Lincoln and intended to last one year after the end of the Civil War.

    With Congress in recess, Johnson announced his own plan. He announced that each remaining Confederate state could be readmitted to the union if it met several conditions.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1866

    Civil Rights Act of 1866
    This act declared that all people born in the United States was a citizen, no matter their race or color. This act was passed even after the veto of President Johnson.
  • Reconstruction Act of 1867

    Reconstruction Act of 1867
    Laid out the process for getting Southern States back into the Union. This was more part of getting the divided country back together. This was only the beginning.
  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment
    This Amendment granted citizen ship to all born and naturalized in the US, including former slaves. The Amendment had been rejected by most Southern States but was passed with three-fourths states votes.
  • 15th Amendment

    15th Amendment
    This Amendment granted African American Men the right to vote. From this point on Freed men were also expected to fend for themselves.
