    John Dewey studied many things across a multitude of fields during his life. However, the focus of his studies was on epistemology or the “Theory of Knowledge”. Dewey didn’t like calling it epistemology as he disagreed with a lot of prior work in this field. Dewey instead called it the “Theory of Inquiry” or “Experimental Logic”.

    Earnest Nagel worked directly with the philosophy of science for most if not all of his adult life. He used “Naturalism” as a way to form a theory and redefine how we can view physical, natural and behavioral sciences.Before Nagel came up with his theory scientist believed that the way we study and analyze physical science had to be different then how we study and analyze social and behavioral sciences.

    Ian Hacking is a currant philosopher of science who has made his markings on the science of probability in mathematics. He has documented the development of probability from today all the way back to the late nineteenth century. Hacking discusses in his many works how probability is a dual hatted discussion involving both epistemic and ontological aspects.
