    Tom's Apprenticeship
    A young boy named Tom was born the seventh son of a seventh son which in his time meant he could become a spook. A spook is a person who goes around killing witches and ghosts. He is taken on to become an apprentice by the current spook and has to face many troubles very soon.

    A Dangerous Friend
    Not long after Tom begins his apprenticeship with the spook he meets a young girl in town that seems a little suspicious. Even after seeing all the signs the spook had warned him to look out for in people, he still began to talk with the girl. Oddly enough the girl, Alice wanted Tom to give a witch that was trapped in a pit built by the Spook a basket of cakes. Without thinking twice he feeds Mother Malkin all three cakes before he realizes what he has done.

    An Unlikely Savior
    After Tom had found out that Mother Malkin had escaped from the pit he went on to search for her but things took an unexpected turn for the worse. Tom was blindsided by Mother Malkin's apprentice Bony Lizzie another witch. Bony Lizzie took Tom to her home and tried to kill him. To Tom's surprise he was saved by Alice Bony Lizzies niece, and the two of them made it there job to track down and kill Mother Malkin.

    Time to Fight
    Not long after Tom and Alice set off to kill Mother Malkin. They soon found her near a river and decided there best option was to throw her into the river. After she was thrown into the river Tom and Alice thought there problems were over but they couldn't have been more wrong.
  • Back Again

    Back Again
    When Tom and Alice had thrown Mother Malkin into the river they decided to head back to Tom's home to rest for a little while. To there surprise the witch they had thrown into the river was there and they had to fight to the death once again.
  • Theme

    Theme
    The theme of the book was coming of age, and this is because throughout the book Tom never listened to the Spook until the end when he used all the information he was taught when he needed it the most. This showed coming of age because Tom had finally learned why listening to his master was so important as time when on.
