Gibbon joined the union side and was appointed Chief of Artillery which was the commander of all the cannons and weapons.

Gibbon went to westpoint but spoiled his first year there and was forced to repeat it and from that he took much discpline enough to lead a Brigade. He served in the mexican american war for about 10 years and returned an expert at artillery tactics. He published an artillery manual that both the union and confederate armys used.

suffered the most casualties in the entire civil war. Gibbon was of the bravest men having served the army for nearly 50 years he devoted most of his life to the war and tremendously affected the outcome.

All in all Gibbons expertise in artillery helped us tremendeously with the war. For example bull run was a battle where Gibbon was outnumbered but still faugh with courage and wasnt over cauitous even though we lost the fight he was a generall that did fight. Another important battle was Turners gap where they succesfully took control of the valley away from the confederates. As if that wasnt enough they participated in the battle of antietam where they faught valiently this being his brigade
