    "A day that will live in infamy" better said by President Roosevelt. This was the day that Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, killing nearly 2,400 servicemen. Though this was a tragic event for us, it also lead to a turning point that resulted in the U.S defeating Japan.

    The Salvage Operation was the United States' attempt to recommission three U.S Navy battleships. Many of them were destroyed because of the Japanese. The three recommissioned ships were later used in 1944 for a "island-hopping" campaign to Japan.

    The Battle of Jima is where the Americans make their first strike on the Japanese Home Islands at Iwo Jima. The U.S sent in three marine divisons after elaborate preparatory air and naval bombardments. The Japanese were driven back with sixty-eight hundred tons of bombs, and twenty-two thousands shells.
  • The Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    The Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    An American B-29 bomber dropped the world's first deployed atomic bomb, A-Bomb, over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The explosion wiped out 90 percent of the city and immediately killed 80,000 people. Three days later, a second B-29 dropped another A-Bomb on Nagasaki, estimated to have killed 40,000 people. Japan's Emperor Hirohito annouced his country's unconditional surrender in World War II.
