Paul Oppenheim was born in Frankfurt, Germany on 18th June 1885. His parents were Nathan Moritz, an art dealer, and Catherine Oppenheim, a native of Vienna, Austria. He was an excellent student majoring in Chemistry and natural sciences at the University of Freiburg. From the University of Giessen, he earned a doctorate in both philosophy and chemistry
