Richard enlists in Army for duty in Europe.

After Finishing training Richard returned to Fort Dix and was assigned a post in Munich, Germany. He was transported by a troop carrier ship that took ten days to get there. Richard was assigned to the 1'ST Battle Group, 21'ST Infantry.

While in Germany Richard joined a sky diving club to train and learn how to sky dive. His first jump was also his first time on a plane. Richard made four jumps before taking a month leave to return home for Christmas.

Richard and Penny got Married while he was on his leave from the Army.

Richard returned to Munich Germany and Penny joined him two months later in March.

While in Germany, Richard spent six months out of the year training in the field and preparing to deploy to possible troubled areas. During training Richard fired and maintained rifles, machine guns, pistols, rocket launchers, flame throwers, mortars, and hand grenades. He also practiced map and compass reading, attack and defense planning, first aid and survival, day and night river crossings, bayonet course and mountain training with armored personal carriers and helicopters.

Richard and Penny had their first daughter, Sandra, in Munich Germany. Penny and Sandra returned to the U.S. In early August.

Richard worked as sergeant of the guard at Dachua. Dachua was a Nazi concentration camp during WWII that was later converted to an American stockade.

Richard finished his active tour of duty in Germany as an E5 Sergeant. He retuned to the U.S. and was assigned to inactive duty for three years at which time he received and honorable discharge from the U.S. Army

Richard worked for the Burroughs Company servicing business machines in the Boston area for four years.

Richard and Penny rented an apartment in Newton MA. While living there they had two more kids, Daryl and Scott.

Richard and Penny bought their first home in Wellesley, MA.

Richard worked at sugar beets products selling industrial skin cleaners throughout New England for three years.

Lynn (my mom) was born in Wellesley, MA.

Richard worked with the Cutterwood and Sanderson Company in Cambridge, MA for two years. He sold tools and mill supplies to manufactures in Eastern Massachusetts.

Richard worked in the plastic container business with Roper Plastics Co. He worked as the U.S. and Nova Scotia Sales manager.

Richard built an addition to his Wellesley house and almost doubled it in size.

Richard bought land in Sagamore Beach, Cape Cod, MA. With the help of his two brothers he built a house there.

Richard and Penny moved to a ranch house in Wellesley where they still live today.
