    Breaking another Japanese code, Admiral Chester Nimitz, a US Pacific fleet commander, knew of a force of 150 Japanese ships were heading towards Midway. He and his force were prepared for that attack and hid their forces beyond the horizon. The US had its revenge.

    Mac Arthur had heard that the Japanese were building a huge air base on the island of Guadalcanal. He knew that the Allies had to attack fast before the base was completed, and so the Japanese were attacked when they were not even prepared.

    A battle in which US and Filipino forces worked together to defeat the Japanese. Wanting to destroy America's fleet, the Japanese gambled and risked almost their entire fleet. Three days later, the Japanese navy was eliminated.

    Iwo Jima was considered an important island due to its convenience in the war. The Japanese used this island to attack American bombers on their way to Japan. Yet 216 of the Japanese soldiers fought to the death or committed suicide.

    An 82-day-long assault on the Japanese Island of Okinawa, the battle was the largest in the Pacific Theater of war. Japan lost a lot more people compared to the Americans.
