    In 1961 Chomsky was given a full professorship with tenure at the MIT department of Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics.
  • Anti-War Activism begins

    In 1962 Chomsky began to join protests against the war in Vietnam. This was the beginning of Chomsky as a figure of public dissent against the current social structures.
  • Retired from MIT

    In 2002 Chomsky retired from MIT but continued to conduct research.
  • Support for "Occupy" movement

    In 2012 Chomsky supported the Occupy movement that attempted to change the financial power structures through protest. This did not work.
