Noam attended the University of Pennsylvania and spent his undergraduate and graduate years studying here. He would later go on to receive his Ph.D. in linguistics in 1955. -
Chomsky joined the staff of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1955 -
It was previously thought that children learned to speak from their parents by watching, listening, and repeating. Chomsky theorized acquiring language was not that simple. When speaking there are a number of combinations, elements, tones, and structures that are used. This can greatly affect the way we think about acquiring knowledge.
