    Niels Bohr is Born
    Niels Bohr is born In Copenhagen, Denmark. He was the second born of three. The oldest sibling was his sister Jenny and the youngest was his brother Harald. His mother Ellen came from wealthy family. His father Christian Bohr was a professor of physiology at the University of Copenhagen. His father was nominated twice for the Nobel Prize.

  • Bohr Atomic Model

    With much objection from the scientific community, Bohr presents the theory that electromagnetic radiation only happened when the electron jump to lower energy orbit. His model was able to aid in in the increasing amount of new experimental data being presented at the time.

    Niels Bohr would go on to be awarded the Noble Prize for his work. Bohrs model of the structure of the atom and the radiation admiting off of it would go on to be used as basis to this day for many educational practices.

    Bohr began his work on the Manhattan Project after fleeing to Sweden from Denmark because of German occupation in 1943. Bohr was brought to the United States, and worked at Los Alamos under the pseudonym Nicholas Baker, as a knowledgeable consultant.
