In 1912, Bohr contributed to the new idea of quantum physics, during his postdoctoral research in England at the University of Manchester. Ernest Rutherford and Bohr determined that the atom consisted of a positively charged nucleus and lighter charged electrons circling at a considerable distance. Classically, this theory would be considered unstable" (Aaserud 2019). However, Bohr contested that by publishing a series of articles, in order to postulate this idea.

Niels Bohr contributed to the philosophy of science in more ways than one. Bohr, in 1917, wrote a letter to his facility at the University of Copenhagen, stressing the need for an institute that focused on theoretical physics. On March 3, 1921, Bohr's image of such an institute came true.

"First, that experiments and experimenters were indispensable at an institute for theoretical physics in order to test the statements of the theorists. Second, he expressed his ambition to make the new institute a place where the younger generation of physicists could propose fresh ideas" (Aaserud 2019).

Niels Bohr accomplished much, from modeling the atom, which, in turn, lead to the creation of the atomic bomb, to Quantum and nuclear physics. Ultimately, his work on atomic modeling granted him a Noble Peace-Prize, in 1922.

Bohr died on November 18, 1962, in his hometown of Copenhagen, Denmark.
