  • Birth

Niels Henrik David Bohr was born in Copenhagen, Denmark to the parents, Christian Bohr and Ellen Adler. “The Nobel Prize in Physics 1922.” NobelPrize.org, https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/physics/1922/bohr/biographical/.
  • Enrolled - University of Copenhagen

Niels Bohr studied at the University of Copenhagen from 1903 until 1911, earning his Master's in Physics in 1909 and doctorate in 1911. Communication. “Niels Bohr.” Niels Bohr Institute - University of Copenhagen, https://nbi.ku.dk/english/www/niels/bohr/.

  • Graduated - University of Copenhagen

Graduated with his Doctorate in 1911. His doctoral thesis was "The Electron Theory of Metals," and he studied under J.J. Thomson, who is known from discovering the electron. Communication. “Niels Bohr.” Niels Bohr Institute - University of Copenhagen, https://nbi.ku.dk/english/www/niels/bohr/.

  • Traveled to Manchester

Niels Bohr went to Manchester, England to work with Ernest Rutherford and continue his studies that had stemmed from his doctorate. A year prior to this, Rutherford and his colleagues had discovered that the atom had a positively charged nucleus and negatively charged electrons. This lead to Bohr’s discovery, as he had realized that this would make the atom unstable Communication. “Niels Bohr.” Niels Bohr Institute - University of Copenhagen, https://nbi.ku.dk/english/www/niels/bohr/.
  • Bohr's Atomic Model

In 1913, Niels Bohr utilized Max Planck’s quantum theory and applied it to Ernest Rutherford’s nuclear atom. This has given us the model that we know today when we think of atoms with electrons orbiting the nucleus. He published three articles that described his findings. • The Nobel Prize

"Niels Bohr's work led to a comprehensive mapping of the atomic structure of protons, neutrons, and electrons. In the early 1920s he was able to explain the entire periodic table using his atomic theory." His work led to him winning the Nobel Prize in Physics, he is also credited with changing the view of the Nobel Foundation with regards to physics. A video on Bohr's Atomic Model:
