    - One of the few countries in Asia that was not colonized by the West.
    - Nepal is the only country that does not have a rectangular flag.
    - Nepals motto is "Mother and Motherland are Greater than Heaven"
    - The capital of Nepal is Kathmandu.
    - Nepal is a landlocked country adn its neigbouring countries are India, China, and Tibet.

    Mt. Eveverst Conquered
    1953 New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepal's Sherpa Tenzing Norgay become the first climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
    - Mount Everest is the highest point on earth (8,848m)
    - It is in the part of the Himalayas that fall in the Nepali Region.

    1962 - New constitution provides for non-party system of councils known as "panchayat" under which king exercises sole power. First elections to Rastrya Panchayat held in 1963.

    2001 1 June - King Birendra, Queen Aishwarya and other close relatives killed in shooting spree by drunken Crown Prince Dipendra, who then shoots himself.
    - Gyanendra, the King's younger brother was appointed regent for the three days, then ascended the throne himself after Dipendra died.
    - It is rumored that Prince Dipendra went on this shooting spree due to family opposition of his marriage to his love Devyani Rana.

    - The Nepali Government has gone through various political conflict since 2007 - 2015 due to violent acts trying to gain the power in the governemnt house.
    - Recently in 2015 after the massive earthquake did Nepal finally put down a solid constistution.

    - Epicenter: Lamjung Ditrict in Gorkha region.
    - Worst Natural disaster since 1934 Nepal-Bihar earthquake.
