    Edward Kelly (Ned Kelly) was born in Beveridge north of Melbourne, 1855.

    Ned and his family moved to Avenel Victoria, in 1864. While they moved there, Ned attened school and learnt how to read and write.

    When Ned Kelly was 11 years old he saved a man called Richard Shelton from drowning in Hughes Creek, Avenel, Victoria. Ned risked his own life to save another person, and was thanked by the Shelton family, with a green sash with gold fringe.

    After her husbands death ( Red Kelly) the widowed Ellen, moved with her 7 children to North-East Victoria, to be near her ralatives.Before long she chose to become a 'selector', and contracted around 80 acres of uncultivated farmland from the government at Eleven Mile Creek, (near the small township of Greta).
