  • Mary Mackillop Being Born

    January 15th 1842: Mary was born in Fitzroy Melbourne

  • Mary Mackillops first school

    1866: Mary and Julian Tennison Woods set up first free catholic school in Penola in a converted stable.

  • Started wearing simple black dress

    1866: 19th March Mary started to wear simple black dress and began congregation of the Sisters of St Joseph.

  • Mary Mackillop becomes the first Nun.

    1867: Mary MacKillop becomes the first nun and Mother Superior of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, an order of nuns created by Fr Woods.

  • Mary travels to Rome

    1873: Mary MacKillop travels to Rome to seek approval of the Rule.

  • Mary runed 40 school

    1877: the Sisters have garnered enough support in the community to run 40 schools.

  • opened a school in New Zealand

    1883: they'd managed to open a school in New Zealand.

    67, on August 8, 1909: Mary MacKillop dies.
