  • Mary's Birth

    Mary was born on 15 of January 1842.

  • Mary's first school

    Mary and Julian Tennison Woods set up the first free catholic school in Penola in an old stable

  • The Sister's of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart.

    In 1867, Mary Mackillop became the first nun and mother superior of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart.

  • Mary's first schools in Queensland

    By July 1870 Mary had opened 3 schools two in Brisbane and the other one in the country town of Maryborough.

  • Mary got excommunicated from the Catholic church

    Mary Mackillop got excommunicated from the Catholic church in September 1871.

  • Mary opened 11 more schools in Queensland

    By 1880 Mary had opened 14 schools in Queensland.

  • Mary's first school in New Zealand

    In 1883 they had opened a school in New Zealand Mary had also opened an orphanage at Mackay.

  • The final approval of the Sisters of St Joseph

    Pope Leo XIII gives his final approval to the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart in 1888.

  • Mary's Death

    Mary MacKillop dies aged 67, on August 8, 1909. She is buried in Gore Hill Cemetery.

    October 17, 2010 Mary was canonised making her Australia's first saint.
