Martin Luther was born November 10th, 1483. During this time the plague was strong and so was the Catholic church.

School

1502

Luther was enrolled at the university of Erfurt. He received his bachelor degree here. Luther's dad wanted him to become a lawyer.

Religion Calling

1505

Plague struck the town Luther was going to school. During his ride him he gets stuck in a thunderstorm. He believes a saint saved him so he devotes his life to the Catholic Church.

Theology

1512

Luther revives his doctorate in theology. He becomes a professor at Wittenberg.

Seeing the problem

1516

Martin Luther starts giving lectures through the Bible. Through this he gets the answer to his problem. He starts gathering his ideas for the reform.

Pope Loe X

1517

Pope loe x issued the seeking of indulgences to pay for the saint peters basilica. Luther was in distressed by the sale of indulgences.

95 These

1517

Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses to the Lutherstadt castle door. Through the printing press this article was spread all through Europe.

Debate

1519

Luther debates John Eck. He denies the supreme authority and councils.

60 days

1520

Luther published more definite breaks in the Catholic Church. He wrote three pamphlets, The Address to the Nobility of the German Nation, Babylonian Captivity of the Church, On the freedom of a Christian man.

Papal Bull

1520

Luther burns the papal bull and canon law. He burns it in Lutherstadt.

Excommunicated

1521

Luther gets excommunicated from the church. He is summoned to appear in front of the Diet of Worms.

Kidnapped

1521

Luther is kidnapped and taken to Wartburg castle. He is under the protection of Frederick the Wise. He stays he for nearly a year

The return

1522

Luther goes back to Lutherstadt. He wants social reforms like education for all.
