  • Yellowstone Act

    This Act made Yellowstone the first National Park. This act is so important today because it was the start to National Parks which have saved so much wildlife and so many ecosystems.
  • The Lacey Act

    The Lacey act is important because it prohibited wildlife transportation across state borders and also no hunting inside Yellowstone National Park. This is important to today's society because with the act it has kept the population of the animals within YSP high.
  • Saving the Bison

    President Rooevelt helped save the Bison and said it would be a big misfortune if they were to go extinct. Many bison roam in the west and Roosevelt is a big part of why that is so.
  • National Park Service

    Congress established this to preserve a big amount of land for strictly wildlife and for it not to be disturbed. This is important to society because it has saved countless amounts of wildlife.
  • New York v. New Jersey

    New York sued New Jersey for dumping sewage into the New York Harbor but lost and New Jersey continued to do it making the pollution levels in New York higher.
  • Salt Lake City

    First US city that had a large scale survey about air pollution. This is very important to todays society because this survey gave the government an idea of how much air pollution there is and how big of a problem it is.
  • Bald Eagle Preservation Act

    This act helped save the Bald Eagle from extinction. This is VERY important to our nation because without this act there was a very high possibly that they could have gone extinct and that means that our national bird would have died out.
  • Los Angeles Smog

    Heavy smog was a problem in Los Angleles so to take care of the problem they shut down some schools in the month of October to cut down the smog levels. This helped the government find out the main source of all the smog.
  • The Antarctic Treaty

    Protected Antarctica from toxic dumping of nuclear waste. This trety helped save many species, like the penguin, because with toxic and nuclear waste in the water and pollution in the air, they dont stand a chance.
  • Clean Air Act

    Regulated the amount of air pollution and emissions. This is effective in today's society because it has made the environment cleaner.
  • National Environmental Policy Act

    This act told the government that they had to consider environmental factors when they set up airports, parks, highways, and other things. This helped today's world get a much more "eco-friendly" society

    General Motors promised pollution free cars by 1980. This is a good sign for our community because this shows that companies are moving in the right direction to save the environment.
  • Earth Day

    Earth Day was created in 1970 and 20 million people around the world celebrated it and more still do today and it also shows that numerous people around the world truly care about saving our planet

    This ad helped get people to recognize awareness for the environment. This helps todays environment because it raised alot of people to do something for the environment.

    This saves endangered species from extinction. Without this in today's world, there might not be some species around today
  • Safe Drinking Water Act

    This act promises clean and healthy drinking water for all people. This is good for our community because citizens do not have to worry about what their drinking water contains.
  • The Montreal Protocol

    This raised ozone depleting problems. This has helped us because ever since this protocol the hydrocarbon production has decreased greatly.
  • NASA warns government

    NASA warns the government of global warming. This helps us out in the fact that we can prepare for this problem and figure out a way to stop it
  • Oil Spill

    This was one of US history's biggest spills and it effected the oceans massively. It still effects us today because we are still trying to make a full recovery and bring the ecosystems back to where they were.
  • Julia Butterfly Hill

    Julia Hill stayed in a Californa Coast Redwood for 735 days to save it from being cut down. This is important to our society because it shows that people actually do care about these tress and cutting them downcarelessly is hurting alot of people
  • David Chain

    David Chain was killed by foresters trying to protest the taking down of a redwood. This is another prime example of how people today are willing to die for these trees
  • Al Gore's Book

    Al Gore wrote a book that helped him win a Nobel Peace Prize because of his raise to awareness to global warming. This is very useful today because his awareness spread through his book and communicated the problem to Americans whiched help limit the things that caused the global warming.
  • Live Earth Concerts

    These concerts were to raise awareness of climate change across the earth. This really communicated the point to everyone because the preparation to climate change was much more efficient after these concerts.
  • Great Lakes Compact

    Compact that helped the distribution of the Great Lake water stay within the regions of the lakes to limit the amount of water taken from the lakes. This helps us today in the fact that it limits the amount of water taken so that the lakes water levels dont run low and when it runs low it effects the environment
