Mark Twain, born as Samuel L. Clemens, was born on November 30, 1835 in Florida, Missouri to John and Jane Clemens.

When he turned four, Mark and his family moved to Hannibal, Missouri in 1839 because of financial troubles in their family. Hannibal was a port town that had better opportunities for the family.
