  • Samuel Langhorne Clemens is born.

    Samuel Langhorne Clemens also known as Mark Twain was born on November 30th, 1835. He was born in Florida, Missouri and was the sixth child of his family.
  • Family Moves to Hannibal, Missouri

    In 1839, Samuel and his family move to another city in Missouri. It is a popular riverboat area, and Samuel falls in love with the riverboat men,and strives to be one.
  • Twain sees Racism in his Hometown

    When Twain was 10 years old he saw a white man strike his black slave with an iron, leaving the man dead. This stuck with Twain, and moved into his writing in the later years.
  • Twain's Father Dies

    March 24th 1847, Mark Twain lost his father. He was only 11 years old at the time, and his father died due to pneumonia. He knew he needed to help the family, so he got a job as a printer's apprentice and made income for the family.
  • Twain gets Printing experience

    In 1853, Twain was given the oppurtunity to begin printing for other places and began to move and work in other states. He gained a lot of experience which helped his job.
  • Twain Gives First Speech

    Twain was a very fluent and well spoken man, which allowed him to be able to give a speech in his city. This gained him much praise and credit.
  • Twain gets Steamboat License

    Mark Twain achieves his dream and gets his Steamboat License. When studying to get his license, he achieved his pen name of Mark Twain, and from then on it stuck with him everywhere he went.
  • Twain Goes to San Francisco

    Mark Twain moves to San Francisco, in order to meet more famous writers. This allows him to write short stories, which boosts his reputation.
  • Twain Marries Olivia Langdon

    Mark Twain marries his wife. She came from a very wealthy family, and the had 3 daughters together.
  • Huck Finn Gets Published

    One of Mark Twain's greatest novels, was released at the end of 1884. This was a major turning point in his career.
  • Autobiography Work

    Mark begins to work on his autobiography to publish. He worked on memoirs that would make him a legacy after death.
  • Mark Twain Dies

    Mark Twain died on April 21, 1910. He lived a very good life, and attained his dreams.
