Louis Vuitton was born of August 4th, 1821 in Anchay, France.

Louis mother passed away when he was just 10 years old but his father soon remarried. It was said that she was an evil stepmother and Vuitton soon decided to runaway to Paris.

At the age of 13, Vuitton packed his bag, left home, and walked to Paris. He traveled for 2 years walking nearly 292 miles and finding jobs along the way, just to reach Paris.

When he was 16 years old, he became an apprentice to Merachal, a luggage maker. He worked for the wife of Napoleon III. The skills that he learned from Merachal are what enabeled him to become as successful as he did.

Louis opened his first store in Paris, selling high-end luggage. These designs were very efficient for traveling. At the time, luggage was made round topped and unable to be stacked. Louis made his so that they were flat-topped and very efficient for stacking on transportation.

Louis first introduced this new design, called the Damier design, in 1889. Georges and Louis came up with this new design due to the fact that many designers were copying the traditional striped trunks.
