    They arrive in St. Charles, Missouri
  • Depature of St. Charles, Arrival on the River

    They departed St. Charles at 3:30 pm on Msy 21. They arrived at the Osage River on June 1.
  • River Basin

    The expidition arrived at Kaw Point, which is the point where the Kansas River drains into the Missouri River basin.
  • First Trial in New Territory

    They had their first trial in new territory. Privates Hugh Hall and John Collins drank on duty. Hall was given 50 lashes, Collins was given 100.
  • Platte River

    They reach the Platte River- 640 miles from their staring point, St. Louis.
  • Clark's 34th Birthday.

  • First Meeting

    Corps of Discovery hold first official meeting of the U.S representatives and those of the Oto and Missouri tribes. It was held in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
  • Moses Reed's Escape and Capture.

    Moses Reed said he was going to go to a previous camp to retrieve a knife, but really, he was going to St. Louis and deserting the expedition. He left on August 4th. They found him on August 18th and he recieved 500 lashes.
  • Lewis' Birthday

  • Meeting Sacagawea

    The expedition members meet Toussaint Charbonneau, a French-Canadian fur trapper, and his two Shoshone wives, Sacagawea and Little Otter.
  • First Death

    Sargeant Charles Floyd dies because of a ruptured appendix.
  • Fort Mandan

    In November and December, the men built a fort for the winter, Fort Mandan. It was built on the land of the Mandans and the Hidatsas, across the river from the main village. I is finished on December 24, 1804, and they move in for the winter.
  • The Baby

    Sacagawea give birth to a baby boy, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau. She was aided in the delivery by Meriwether Lewis, who rattled the tail of a rattlesnake to aid her. Jean was given the nickname "Pomp" by Clark.
  • Departure of Fort Mandan

  • Marias River

    A strom tips a boat conatining many supplies. The items are rescued calmly by Sacagawea, who was credited by Clark for her quick thinking.
  • Great Falls of the Missouri River

    The men approached the Great Falls of the Missouri River on June 13. It meant they were heading in the right direction.
  • Meeting of Cameahwait

    Lewis meets Cameahwait, leader of a band of Shoshone Indians. He is Sacagawea's brother. They build Camp Fortunate together.
  • Meeting of the Shoshones

    The expedtion met up with the Shoshone Indians. They gave the men 29 horses, along with uniforms, rifles, pistols, powder, and bullets. They also hired the Shoshone guide, Old Toby.
  • Pacific Ocean

    The men encountered the Pacific Ocean at the mouth of the Columbia River.
  • Fort Clatsop

    On November 24th, the Corps of Discovery put it to a vote where to stay for the winter. York, a slave, and Sacagawea, were allowed to vote, too. They decided to camp at the south side of the Columbia River. It was finished on December 25th, and it was called Fort Clatsop.
  • Departure of Fort Clatsop

    The expedition leaves Fort Clatsop on March 22nd and heads to Camp Chopunnish.
  • Splitting Up

    The explorers separated into two separate groups for the journey home. The group led by Lewis traveled up the Blackfoot River. Clark's group went up the Bitterroot River.
  • Continental Divide

    Lewis' group reaches the Continental Divide.
  • Fights with the Indians

    A group of Blackfoot Indians try to steal rifles from Lewis' group. A fight broke out, and two Indians were killed. This is the only hostile conflict between the explorers and Indian tribes.
  • Whoops!

    Lewis is accidentally shot by a member of his own party, though not fatally.
  • Reunion

    The two parties reunite on the Missouri River in present-day North Dakota.
  • Finally Finished

    The Corps arrive St. Louis and finish their journey after two years, four months, and ten days.
