    The corps set off into the unknown; Fierce head winds slowed down and eventually stopped their progress up the river; Every time they found a new tribe they would tell them it’s Jefferson’s land now and give peace offerings

    Came across fork of river; Didn’t know which way to go; Sacagawea had to bring her infant son on the journey after giving birth from it
  • July 4, 1805

    33 members who journeyed from Fort Mandan to Fort Clatsop; “Dogg of the Newfoundland breed” seaman; Party celebrates 2nd independence day

    Moved into great plains; Discovered many unknown animals

    Running short of food; Butchered a horse; Snow begins to fall
