  • Jimmy (9) Is in his first weeks of 4th grade at a new school, and has support from his parents and has seemed to bond with some new friends, making him feel more at home with himself.

    Erikson's 4th stage, Industry vs. Inferiority, children develop confidence and pride in their own abilities, coming into a new age of requirements and change. With support from parents and potentially new friends, Jimmy has a solid basis in which to form pride in himself.
  • Jimmy (21) Is in university, keeping in contact with this friends from middle and highschool, while having new relationships in his new environment.

    Erikson's 6th Stage, Intimacy vs. Isolation, states how young adults forming and keeping relationships new and past help set a ground for strong future relationships that last. Jimmy is showing this by forming new university relationships, all the while keeping contact with this friends from years before.
  • Jimmy (32) is now married with someone who he found in his career path outside university, with 2 newborn twins. Jimmy feels happy, feeling he created something that will go to outlast both him and his partner, and contributing to his world.

    Erikson's 7th Stage, Generativity vs. Stagnation, explains how full adults require something that they build up to live longer and make an impact on the world after their own. Jimmy has shown this by having a successful career, getting married, and raising a new family that he is core to.
