    The Vietnam War ended in communism, leading the U.S. to take in about one million refugees, or "boat people", from South Vietnam. More immigrated to Canada, Austrailia, Japan, and the Philipines. This lasted until around 1995.

    U.S. President Jimmy Carter wanted a peace treaty to be signed by Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. After the 13 day meeting, both Egyptian President and Israeli Prime Minister signed the treaty.

    Russia invaded Afghanistan, leaving U.S. President Jimmy Carter to announce that Russia will be given one month to withdraw their troops and if they don't the U.S. will boycott the Summer Olympics in Moscow. Soon after the U.S. made the announcement, Canada, Chine, the Philipines, and Argentina also announced they would boycott the Olympics if Russia withdrew their troop. The U.S. also spent $38 billion in sending weapons to Afghanistan.

    The Strategic Arms Reductions Treaty was signed by President George H.W. Bush and Soviet President Boris Yeltsin. The treaty's main purpose was to reduce and limit offensive and strategic arms. The U.S. Senate ratified it on the 26th of January in 1996, but Russia withdrew from the treaty because the U.S. withdrew from the ABM Treaty.

    The North American Free Trade Agreement was signed into law by President Clinton. It was a treaty between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada that got rid of tariffs on trades between the three countries and encouraged economic activity between them. Jobs that were initially in the U.S. were moved to Mexico, due to lower wages and no taxes were being put on the products.

    The Anti-Ballistic Missle Treaty involved the U.S.and the Soviet Union. The treaty limited the use of anti-ballistic missiles. No specific date is given on when it was signed. each nation would be limited to 100 missiles and two ABM (activity based management) complexes. Even though it was originally signed in 1972, four former Soviet republics decided to succeed the role in the treaty, and it was terminated in 2002.
