Saul was anointed when he was looking for his father's donkeys. Saul poured oil on his head and told him that he was going to be king. Saul did not think that he deserved to be king.

Saul was not a good king and was not pleasing God so God told Samuel to anoint a new king. Samuel went to Jesse and asked to see his sons so Jesse calls his sons but God does not pick any of them. So after that David gets called and is anointed king however he does not become king right away. He was the 2nd king.

David was a Sheppard and he protected his sheep from lions and bears. When David heard Goliath mocking and blaspheming God he told Saul that he was going to fight Goliath. Saul kind of laughed at him and then David told him that he fought lions and bears.
