At the Berlin Confrence in 1855 King Leopold the ll was recongnized. He was given the title as King-Sovereign of the Congo Free State. This basically made King Leoplod the ll the owner of central Africa. This was a major gain for Leopold because central Africa was rich with the natural resource rubber. -
