Kennedy timeline discrepancies

  • First discrepancy

We're told Kennedy and Kopechne left the party together at roughly 11:15pm. He claimed he was driving her to the ferry. He merely had to follow the only paved road to reach the landing. Furthermore, there was no need to rush to the landing. There was more than ample time before the ferry suspended service for the evening.
  • Another discrepancy

Ms. Kopechne did not take her room key, or purse. Another woman's identification was found on Ms. Kopechne when recovered from vehicle.
  • Returning to party...

Chappaquiddick may be sparsely populated, but there are several residences he would encounter on the way back to his party. There is a house right next to the bridge. Residents reported being present when this happened. He likely walked past the aforementioned Tom's Neck Farm.
  • Kennedy swam to the other shore. (Improbable)

I was on the swim team in high school. At my fittest, I could make said swim in good time. However, the notion of a middle-aged, out of shape individual, swimming against that strong a current while intoxicated and wearing clothes? This is doubtful. Furthermore, had the events unfolded as he claimed, there is virtually no way he could have made it back his hotel room by 2:30 a.m.
  • Failing to report

Authorities were never notified of the accident. The scene was discovered the following morning by a father and son who went to fish at the bridge.
  • Kennedy's car spotted by sheriff's deputy?

Around 12:40 a.m. on the 19th, an off-duty sheriff's deputy reported seeing a car matching Kennedy's with a license plate similar to Kennedy's. The deputy claims the car proceeded straight at the main curve and onto the cemetery road. The car then reversed quickly, and turned down the dirt road toward the bridge.
