    Karl Marx was born in Trier, Prussia on May 5th, 1818. He was born into a jewish family. His father was a public lawyer. His family was converted to christianity. (Magill 1492)

    In 1830, the underground railroad was made. This helped african american slaves escape from the south and go north where ther was no slavery. This was not a real railroad rather a a path of houses with shelters to hide slaves (Faculty.washington.edu).

    Marx enrolled in the University of Berlin in 1836. This came a year after he enrolled in the university of bonn. He studied law, history and philosophers Fichte and Hegel (Magill 1492). This was important educational period to Marx.

This piece was heavy on the class struggles and all of the problems with capitolism. It was to explain the goal of communism. He wrote in the context of workers in England. Marx discusses communist view of history. He compares the communists to other parties and points out the flaws of other socialist writings(sociology.about.com). This helped to spread communism.

    Karl Marx began writing for the New York Tribune. His focus had to turn to currents events in America such as slavery and the abolishionist movement (Biography.com). Marx did write his work as well as doing this.

    Karl Marx died on March 16, 1883 in London, England(Magill 1492). His oldest girl and wife died in the year before his death. He is buried in Highgate Cemetery in North London(Historyguide.org).
