Justin Peck

  • Birth

    Peck was born on September 8th, 1987 in Washington DC
  • School of American Ballet

    At age 15, he moved to New York to study at the School of American Ballet.
  • New York City Ballet

    He was invited to join the New York City Ballet by Peter Martins (Danish ballet dancer and choreographer). Here he danced extensive repertoire by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins and Benjamin Millepied among others.
  • First Choreography

    He choreographed his first ballet, A Teacup Plunge, for the Columbia Ballet Collaborative.
  • Year of the Rabbit

    Year of the Rabbit is one of Peck's most acclaimed pieces. It weaves 6 featured dancers, set to Sufjan Stevens', Enjoy Your Rabbit, (an electronica album and song cycle) and is based on the Chinese Zodiac.
  • Ballet 442

    He was the subject of the documentary film, Ballet 442. The film followed Peck for 3 months as he created NYC Ballet's 422nd original dance, Paz de la Jolla.
  • Resident Choreographer

    In 2014 he was named the New York City Ballet's resident choreographer, the youngest and second ever to hold the position.
  • Everywhere We Go

    Set to Sufjan Stevens' music again, Peck's epic features 25 dancers set to a multilayered and shifting geometric backdrop. This piece resulted in him being appointed Resident Choreographer of NYCB.
  • Rodeo

    His ballet, Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes won the Bessie Award for Outstanding Production
  • Carousel

    Peck choreographed the third Broadway revival of Carousel. He received a Tony Award for his choreography.
