After his Father's death Joe was left trying to deal with his recent loss and assisting his mother and family on the farm.

Joe and Margaret got married Tuesday morning at 9:30 on November 25, 1941, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in rural Clutier, Iowa. Father Thomas Vopatek performed their wedding ceremony. Joe and Margaret began their life together on Joe’s farm where he had been living and working.
