He uses this method to address various topics in this book including logic and language, the relativity of knowledge, the scientific method, etc. This book goes through publication numerous times with Mill himself making substantial changes to the third and eighth editions.

Mill publishes his book, Principles of Political Economy, and it becomes the leading economic text book for decades. This is what he is most well-known for. This book combines philosophy and economics, and expresses his views that slow economic growth would be beneficial for both the environment and the public good.

Mill publishes his essay Utilitarianism to share his theory. Mill believes 'actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness'. He sees happiness as 'pleasure, and absence of pain'. He based his theory on Bentham's original philosophy. This video will go more into utilitarianism.

In this essay Mill argues for the legal and social separation and equality of women. Quoting the text, he states 'the legal subordination of one sex to the other is wrong in itself, and now one of the chief hindrances to human improvement'. At this time, it was thought that women were better suited to the home, where they could be shielded from outside influences and should use their moral superiority to shape the future generations. Mill did not agree with this.
