John Dupre was born on 3 July 1952. A British Philosopher who studies the Philosophy of Biology.

He received his PhD in Philosophy at Cambridge University in 1981.

In 1993 he came out with his first book from the Harvard Press called "The disorder of things: metaphysical foundations of the unity of Science". In this book he argues that it is better to understand contemporary science, especially biology. He also insists the pluralistic necessity of the understanding of human nature.

He was a member of of the Stanford University Department of Philosophy from where he taught from 1982 to 1996.

In 2000 he was appointed appointed at Exeter as a Professor of Philosophy of Science.

In 2002 John Dupre assumed the full time directorship of Egenis, the ESRC centre for Genomics in society. Egenis dedicated to researching the nature, historical precedents, and philosophical, social, and scientific implications of the modern biosciences

In 2010 he was elected a fellow of the American Association of the Advancement of Science.

He also published another book in 2012 called "Processes of Life". In this book he talks about understanding human nature and human society. It also includes sections of the nature of the organism and the evolutionary theory, contemporary biology of the human race, and the plasticity of human nature.
