    In 1981 he received his PhD at the University of Cambridge. From there, he spent two years at St. John's College, Oxford.
  • Professor At Universities

    John Dupre taught in the department of philosophy at Stanford university from 1983 to 1996. He then went to Birkbeck College, University of London and taught as Professor of Philosophy.
  • Egenis

    Egenis
    After teaching at a couple of different universities, John Dupre went on to the University of Exeter in the UK to become the directorship of Egenis. Egenis is the centre for the study of life sciences. According to Dupre, he wants to "claim that an ontology of processes is far better suited to understanding the nature of life and the living than the more standard ontology of things" (Dupre pg. 33).

    During the times of May 2013 to April 2018, John Dupre lead a project known as "a Process Ontology for Contemporary Biology". One of Dupre's main focuses is in the philosophy of biology, and this project is meant to show that everything in this world is made up of processes. According to John Dupre and Daniel Nicholson in their book, Everything Flows, they believe "that the existence of things is conditional on the existence of processes" (Nicholson & Dupre pg. 4).
