Jackson and the and the 2nd National Bank

  • Election of 1832

    There were two things that were unique about this election. Those two things were that it was the emergence of the Anti-Masonic Lodge and national nominating conventions were used.
  • Bank Veto Speech

    Jackson vetoed the bank saying that it was violating the Constitution and that it wasn't just. He believed that the bank would only benefit the wealthy and not the common people. Jackson succeeded in bringing down the bank, it expired in 1836.
  • Pet Banks

    Pet banks was a derogatory term used to describe state banks that were chosen to receive a surplus from the U.S Treasury. They were created due to Jackson's attempt to eliminate the National Bank. These pet banks failed to properly regulate the economy and factored into a national financial panic.
