Morgan bought 250,000 shares of the New York Central Railroad from William Vanderbuilt. -
The Corsair Compact
Morgan ended a feud between top directors of New York Central & Pennsylvania Railroad. He held a meeting between the two companies on his yacht, called the Corsair. He told them the yacht would not go back to the port until they reached an agreement in which they did which would eventually be called the Corsair Compact. -
General Electric
Morgan arranged the merger of Edison General Electric and Thomson-Houston Company to form General Electric. -
Panama Canal
Newly independent Panama elected J.P. Morgan to be fiscal agent, with responsibilities that included overseeing the transfer of $40 million to the New Panama Canal Co. -
