John moved to Illinois, where he learned that farmers had difficulty using iron plows on the tough soil. Deere thought that if he could make a plow out of steel, it would be durrable, and if it were shaped right, pushing it through the ground would make it sharpen itself. The first of these new plows were manufactured in 1837

After the finacial crisis in 1858, Deere gave ownership of his company to his son Charles. It became John Deere and Company, the buissnes we know now in 1868

Full ownership of the company was granted to Charles Deere. By this time, the company expanded to building more farm machinery.

With deisel and gassoline engines, farmers can plough feilds at alarming rates. The plow still hold true to its roots by continuing to be made of steel.
