Atom2

How the Atom Came to be

  • 400

    Democtirus

    Democtirus
Democritus stated that all matter was compused of small particles called "Atoms" in 400 B.C.
  • Lavoisier

    Lavoisier
videoLavoisier stated the Law of Conservation or Mass. Which stated that when a chemical reaction occurs, nass is netiher created nor destrpyed, but only changed.
  • Proust

    video
Proust stated the law of Definite Proportions which means compounds are always going to have the same proportion.
  • Dalton

videoDalton came up with the Atomic Theory which states that Matter is composed of tiny particles called atoms. Atoms of the same element are identical. Reactions occur when atoms are seperated from one another, joined, or rearranged, but matter can not be created or destroyed. Atoms of different elements can combine in whole number ratios to form compunds.
  • Thompson

videoConducted the Cathode Ray Tube Experiment. During the experiment he completed an electric current through the tube which caused an element ray to appear. He then put a magnet across the tube to show that the ray and the negative charge of the ray were inseperable.
  • Millikan

videoConducted the Oil Drop Experiment. During the experiment he added a magnetic charge to drops of oil and found that if you add the right charge you can make the oil drops suspend in midair.
  • Rutherford

videoRutherford conducted the Gold Foil Experiment which proved the plum pudding model wrong.During the Gold Foil Experiment Rutherford shot possitively charged particles at a sheet of gold foil to see where they bounced off at.
  • Chadwick

    Chadwick
videoDiscovered the existence of the Neutron and found that its mass was .1 percent more than the mass of the Proton.
