Don Meyer was born to Don and Edna Meyer in Wayne, Nebraska. He was born into a farming family, so he had to carry out the normal everyday chores.

Don and Carmen both attended Northern Colorado University. They met while Carmen was working a part-time job in the equipment room. There first date occured after one of Don's basketball games.

He quit his job in the spring(no positive date). Don quit his job at David Lipscom University in Nashville after a disagreement with the administration.

He took the job in the summer(no positive date). Don was very excited to take the job at this Division 2 school in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Don moved his family to Aberdeen.

The accident was with a semi on Highway 20 on the way to a team-bonding event. Don Meyer was leading the caravan of cars to the lodge. Don was the only person injured in the accident. He fell asleep behind the wheel.

The helicopter finally arrived at the scene of the accident at 5:27. The 911 call was made 36 minutes before the helicopter came. The helicopter took Don to Sioux Falls hospital.

At around 3am, Doctor Strand told Carmen Meyer that they had discovered that Don had cancer. They found the tumors in his intestines and liver.

The doctors were very vague in describing the cancer to Don. Meyer took the news hard, and broke down and cried as did the rest of his family. Don then put out a statement to the public.

Don Meyer's leg was infected and causing him alot of pain. Before the surgery the doctors told him that they were not sure if they could save it. While in surgery, they had to remove his leg below the knee cap.

Northern State held their first practice on this day, without Meyer. At the time, Meyer was still in the hospital recovering. Barauth still discussed with him the workouts.

Don Meyer was released from the hospital 55 days after the accident occured. Some of the staff even wore Northern State shirts. Don Meyer was filled with emotion on this day.

Don Meyer attended practice the day after he was released. He took a back role position in that days practice. He was exhausted by the end.

Don Meyer passed Bob Knight's title of most victories, with 903 in his career. The game was against the University of Mary.

He was given an ESPY on behalf of his dedicatio to the sport while going through his recovery. Don's speech was memorable and received a standing ovation.

After a morning practice, Don Meyer notified the players that he was not going to continue to coach them. He made this decision because his cancer was still growing and he did not want to have the team suffer with him
