Thousands of people were mad about losing their jobs, taking their anger out, and forming Al Qaeda. The US broke up their army, leaving them to start an entirely new one, which left many Sunni officers out of work. This made them mad, eventually forming the group that is known for terrorizing places around the world today, ISIS.

In 2010, Masri was killed in a US-Iraqi operation. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi became the new leader, and took the group to fight Syria's government in the civil war.

After gaining power fighting the government in Syria, Baghdadi, the new leader of the group decided to rename the group, ISIS, instead of ISI. The group now stood for Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

In 2013, Baghdadi, leader of ISIS offered to merge together with Al-Nusra Front, whom were affiliated with the Al Qaeda group. In 2014, Al Nursa Front declined the request. .

After fighting with the Al Nursa Front group for months, Al Qaeda decided to re-join ISIS.

According to a United Nations report, ISIS is holding 3500 people as slaves. The slaves consist mostly of women and children from the Yazidi community, though some are from other religious and ethnic minority groups.
