  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    War became world wide war between Great Britain and France. They attacked Fort Duquesne killing 2/3 of the british army and took the cities of Quebec 1759 and Montreal 1760. The Briish won and took canada from the French.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    They ended the war. They claimed all land east of the Mississppi river. British colonist began to settle in the Ohio River Valley. Native Americans responded by attacking colonist.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    They sent troops to protect and prevent settlers from crossing the line.British did not allow colonists to settle west of the Appalachians.Colonist began to get angry.
  • Sugar Act

    Tax on sugar and molasses. Did not affect many but the idea of taxes a growing issue.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Tax on legal documents, newspapers, wills and basically every piece of paper used.Stamp act congress fromed to organize boycott eventually repealed.

    Townshend Act
    Tax on various household items such as paper, glass, lead, silk , and tea.Colonist boycott through the nonimportation agreement eventually repealed.
  • Wirts of Assistance

    Customs officers could search ships at will. Few colonists affected, but merchants felt this was an invasion of privacy.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    A rioting mob confronted British soldiers at the Boston customs house.Tensions rose and shots were fired into the crow, killing five colonis. Sam adams used the opportunity to whip up anti British felling by calling the event a "massacre".Two soldiers were found guility of man slaughter,six were found not guilty.
  • Quartering Act

    Colonist had to provide foord, housing, blankets , candles, etc. for the British soldiers. This was hated but little could be done.

    Tea merchants in the colonies were cut out of the tea trade because the british East India company lowered thier tea prices.which led to the Boston tea party. The company mompolized or controlled tea sales in the colonies.Which led to the Boston tea party. On December 16, 1773 the sons of liberty dumped 90,000 pounds of tea into Boston Harbor. Which led to the Intolerable Acts.

    Colonists could not hold town meetings, port of Boston closed customs officals tried in Britain. First conrontal congress meets individual colonies gegan to unify.

    They met in philadelpia. Delegates agreed to ban all trade with Britain untill the acts were repealed.

    Britain held firm on the intolerable acts and even increased restrictions on colonial trade and sent more troops.Patrick Henry expected a WAR. He gave his famous speech at the Virginia House of Burgesses In 1775. "give me liberty or give me death."

    First battle of the revolutionary war. On April 19, 1775, 700 militamen troops reached lexington.70 militamen were waiting. British ordered the americans to drop thier weapons.400 minutemen and militamen lined the road from Concord to lexington.Ralph Waldo Emerson`s peom" shot heard around the world."

    "Don`t fire until you see the white of their eyes,"The said this because they were low on supplies and gun powder. The British had won this war! Colonist still hoped for peace and congress drafted an olive Branch Petitonto london asking the king.They marched up bunker hill to remove the continental army.

    They wanted to form the continental army and did. George Washington was chosen as the commanding general of the continental army.
