  • Seneca Falls Convention

    Seneca Falls Convention
    The Seneca Falls Convention was the first women's rights convention. It gave equal social status and legal rights for women. This included the right for women to vote as well.
  • Passage of the 15th Amendment

    Passage of the 15th Amendment
    The 15th Amendment gives African American males the right to vote. This was because the African American males were being prevented from voting, especially those in the Southern states. It took until the year of 1965 when the Voting Rights Act came to pass before most of the African Americans in the South were able to vote.
  • Passage of the 17th Amendment

    The 17th Amendment gives the citizens of the states the right to vote and elect who their senators will be by using popular vote. At first, the senators were elected by state legislatures, but then it started to cause people to lose their faith in the system, which led their to be changes. This allowed their to be a positive impact on democratic powers.
  • Passage of the 19th Amendment

    Passage of the 19th Amendment
    The 19th Amendment gives all women the right to vote in America. This is because the women came together to make a women's suffrage movement, which was established because the women was not able to vote or run for office. Their movement is what allowed them to achieve being able to vote (aka the 19th Amendment).
  • Indian Citizenship Act

    Indian Citizenship Act
    The Indian Citizenship Act allowed citizenship to be given to the Native Americans. Also, it allowed the Native Americans to be given the right to vote, since voting was governed by the state law and they were not able to vote. Some Native Americans still was not able to vote even after this was passed because their were restrictions put on them from different states.
  • Passage of the 24th Amendment

    Passage of the 24th Amendment
    The 24th Amendment prohibits any poll tax in elections for federal officials. A poll tax is a tax and/or fee that needs to be paid annually by each voter in order to be able to make a vote. The reason why the 24th amendment went into effect was because there were citizens in some states that had to pay a fee to vote in an election, but then it was decided that it should be prohibited.
  • Passage of the 26th Amendment

    Passage of the 26th Amendment
    The 26th Amendment lowers the voting age. It sets the age for voting at 18 years and older instead of 21 years and older. So therefore, people who are not 18 years of age or older, does not have the right to begin voting.
